After nearly 20 years of hard work, the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) has gradually grown and developed. Now, it has a professional academic team of respiratory medicine featuring profound academic attainments, superb medical technology, reasonable talent structure and strong comprehensive strength. There are 143 ward beds and more than 90 medical staff, ranking among the top in the province. Among them, there are 24 physicians, including 5 chief physicians, 5 associate chief physicians, 11 attending physicians, 3 resident physicians, 4 doctors, 10 masters, and 2 postgraduate students. It sets up an independent respiratory intensive care unit (RICU) with 12 beds and a central monitoring system.

It has the pulmonary function room, bronchoscopy room, sleep monitoring ward. It has successively introduced 5 Olympus (Japan) bronchoscopes, 1 Olympus ultrasonic bronchoscope, and 1 Olympus medical thoracoscope. It has 15 imported ventilators and 6 invasive ventilators, 2 German Jaeger and 2 Ganshorn large-scale pulmonary function testers, 1 Japanese CHEST simple pulmonary function tester, 1 U.S. Wellkang ALICE5 sleep monitor and 1 exhaled nitric oxide detector (FeNO). The department possesses extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of common, acute and critical and difficult respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchial asthma, respiratory failure, lung cancer, severe pneumonia, pleural effusion, sleep apnea syndrome, pulmonary embolism, interstitial lung disease, and pulmonary hypertension, and is specialized in integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine treatment of small pulmonary nodules, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic cough, and pulmonary malignant tumors, and preventive treatment of respiratory diseases with traditional Chinese medicine. At present, it has carried out polysomnography and the diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea syndrome, exhaled nitric oxide determination, CT-guided percutaneous lung biopsy, EBUS-TBNA technique, EBUS-TBLB technique, interventional pulmonology based on rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) and bronchoscopic interventional therapy (cryotherapy, APC, electrocoagulation, snare, stent implantation, etc.), bronchoscopic foreign body removal, medical thoracoscopy, closure of bronchopleural fistula with autologous blood, transbronchial frozen biopsy, all reaching the domestic advanced level.

The department has established partnerships with Peking Union Medical College Hospital, China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, Beijing Chest Hospital, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital and other well-known domestic hospitals. It sets up national, provincial and municipal continuing education courses every year, and invites well-known domestic medical experts for academic exchange, so that the department can keep up with the international frontier level.

Academic status:

It is a key discipline of the hospital. The ward size, technical strength, and diagnosis and treatment level are currently high in the province. The department currently undertakes a number of national, provincial and municipal scientific research fund programs. It has published many papers in SCI and national academic journals every year and obtained 2 national invention patents. It has participated in the compilation of 2 books. Its discipline leaders and several senior professional experts hold posts in national, provincial and municipal medical academic institutions. It has successfully set up national, provincial and municipal continuing education courses. It has the qualification for conferring a master's degree in respiratory medicine and trained more than 10 postgraduate students from Hangzhou Normal University School of Medicine.

Research interests:

Early diagnosis of lung cancer and individualized targeted therapy based on molecular pathology, etiological diagnosis of lung infection, research on drug resistance mechanism of multi-drug resistant bacteria, new progress in the treatment of severe asthma, analysis of complications and clinical characteristics of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, basic and clinical research on interstitial lung disease, research on dialectical treatment of lung disease with integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine, and participation in a number of multicenter clinical studies and drug clinical trials.
