Established in July 2009, the Department of Tuberculosis of the Affiliated Hospital of Hangzhou Normal University is a designated diagnosis and treatment unit for tuberculosis in Zhejiang Province. It mainly undertakes the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis and extrapulmonary tuberculosis in Hangzhou and surrounding areas. It assists the local tuberculosis prevention and control institution in the prevention and control management, epidemic handling and knowledge propaganda of tuberculosis. In 2012, it passed the review of the provincial health administrative department and was granted as the designated diagnosis and treatment unit for multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis.

Since its establishment, in line with the concept of social responsibility first and public health service as the priority, guided by the Healthy China Plan, and taking discipline construction and talent training as the focus, the technical level and service capacity of the Department of Tuberculosis have been rapidly improved, the radiation scope of the business has been expanding, the treatment-prevention integration has been gradually close, and the awareness of prevention and control management has been further strengthened.

The department currently has 35 professional technicians, including 3 senior professional technicians, 8 intermediate professional technicians, 3 masters, 1 standing member of Chinese Society of Tuberculosis, 1 standing member and 1 young member of Zhejiang Medical Association of Tuberculosis, and 1 vice chairman of Hangzhou Medical Association of Tuberculosis.

It provides independent tuberculosis specialist outpatient services, and sets up a bronchoscopy treatment room and an independent laboratory for mycobacteria. It carries out mycobacterial rapid culture and strain identification, Xpert-MTb/RIF test, INF-r release test, mycobacterial resistant gene test and other advanced test techniques. It reaches the provincial advanced level in terms of the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of difficult tuberculosis, the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis, and the rescue of severe tuberculosis.
