The Department of Pathology of the Affiliated Hospital of Hangzhou Normal University was established in 1974 as a national standardized training base for Resident Physicians. At present, there are a total of 18 medical staff and 9 physicians, including 2 Chief Physicians and 1 Associate Chief Physician, as well as a well-trained technical team that can skillfully perform routine and frozen section, immunohistochemistry, special staining, ThinPrep cytologic test (TCT) preparation, etc. and undertake the clinical-pathological diagnosis, scientific research and teaching tasks of the hospital. The department consists of a pathological diagnosis room, a routine technical room, a special technical room (immunohistochemistry and special staining), a cytology room, and a molecular pathology room. It is equipped with an automatic tissue processor, automatic staining and mounting machine, automatic immunohistochemical instrument, cryostat microtome, paraffin microtome, embedding machine, fluorescence microscope, multi-view microscope, etc. The department has established a good relationship with Charité -Universitätsmedizin Berlin, University of Chicago Medicine, and Chinese University of Hong Kong for frequent exchanges and cooperation, and continuously strengthens the construction of talent team and the introduction of high-level talents.

Diagnosis and treatment scope:

1. Routine histopathological diagnosis.

2. Exfoliative cytological and puncture cytological diagnosis.

3. Intraoperative frozen pathological diagnosis.

4. Histopathological diagnosis through bone marrow aspiration.

5. Histopathological diagnosis through liver puncture.

6. Consultation for external pathological data.

7. Routine special techniques: histochemical staining, immunohistochemical staining, etc.

8. Molecular pathological techniques: in situ hybridization, quantitative fluorescence PCR, etc.

The department has carried out 4 projects in the past 5 years and published many related papers in SCI and Level 1 journals. It was rated as an outstanding unit of clinicopathological interlaboratory quality control evaluation in Zhejiang Province in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
